LHS has an abundance of written publications. The LHS Newsletter is mailed home monthly and contains a calendar of events, as well as articles on events at LHS and student achievements. Information concerning deadlines for activities, SAT tests, etc. are included. It also contains a message from the Principal and updates on the PTSA activities.
The Musket is the student newspaper. Students receive them at school, but you can also subscribe to Musket for $12 at Back-to-School Night, filling out the form in the fall Newsletters, or calling the Main Office.
The LHS Student/Parent Handbook is mailed to every home. It is important that both you and your student know its contents.
The Program of Studies contains course descriptions and graduation requirements. This too is important to both you and your child.
The LHS Student Directory contains phone numbers and names of students and parents. It is distributed to all PTSA members via homerooms.
The LHS Internet home page is http://lhs.lexingtonma.org/
The PTSA home page is http://lhs.lexingtonma.org/PTSA/
The PTSA also maintains an electronic mailing list. See the LHS/PTSA home page for details.

Opportunities for Involvement
Volunteer opportunities through the PTSA and other organizations offer friendships and LHS connections to you and offer valuable services to the school. Parental involvement in the child’s school remains valuable no matter the age of the student. Most teens prefer not to see their parents at school, but continue to value their support through involvement in their school and activities.
The PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) holds monthly evening forums with the Principal which are open to the entire LHS community. Membership and volunteer forms appear in the fall LHS Newsletters. There are many ways parents can volunteer through PTSA activities.
The Friends of Lexington Music, Art and Drama Students, Inc. (FOLMADS) provides many ways, both active and monetary, for supporting townwide student activities in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Call Coordinator Walter Pavasaris for information (781-861-2320, ext. 2175).
The Lexington Athletic Association provides townwide support for student athletes, and there are many high school sports which have active booster clubs at the discretion of the coach. Call Athletic Director Tony Porter (781-861-2320, ext. 1022 or 1023).
Debate has an active parent organization which raises money and support students of Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Policy Debate.
Never underestimate the importance of attending events in which your student is a participant, whether it is sports, drama, music, science fair, etc. Not only is your presence a powerful statement to your student, it provides opportunities for you to learn what your student has been working on and to meet other parents whose students are involved in the same activities. |
