Alyson Brown
Drama, Clarke Middle School
Alyson Brown has been teaching in the Lexington Public Schools since 1994. During this time, her students have participated in the Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival every year. In 1995, they took first place for the production of Fools; in 1997, second place for Interview; in 1998, first place for Feiffer's People; in 1999, first place for I Never Saw Another Butterfly; and in 2001, outstanding overall production for the original piece, Samaha. In 1997 and 1998, Clarke was the United States representative at the Provincial Festival at the University of New Brunswick in Canada, taking Outstanding overall production, best teacher/director, best costumes, best ensemble and best set. In 2000, Ms. Brown and her students were chosen to represent the Un ited States at the prestigious World Festival of Children's Theatre in Toyama City, Japan.
Ms. Brown is the President of the Middle School division of the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild. She is also on the Board of Trustees for the Guild, having been a driving force in the Guild incorporating the middle school division under its umbrella. She is on the Board of Directors for NARA (North American Regional Alliance), the governing force for amateur theatre in North America. She is a member of EdTA (Educational Theatre Association), AATE (American Alliance for Theatre in Education), AACT (American Alliance of Community Theatres) and NETC (New England Theatre Conference).
This past summer, Ms. Brown was the United States delegate to the Congress of the International Amateur Theatre Association in Monaco where her main purpose was to advocate for children and youth theatre. During that congress, she officially bid for the first World Festival of Youth Theatre to be held in the Boston area in 2005.
Ms. Brown holds a BFA from the Boston Conservatory and is currently attending Lesley University.
