Janet
Haas is known in Massachusetts as a teacher, a conductor and a performer
on early instruments. She has taught in the Lexington Public Schools for
15 years, starting beginners, leading middle school ensembles, and directing
the high school orchestras. Under her baton, the Lexington High School
Orchestras have performed at the 1991 and 2001 Massachusetts Music Educators
Conference. They have also been selected to perform at Music Educators
Eastern Division Conferences in 1989 and 1993.
Over the years, Mrs. Haas has come to see the string program in the town
of Lexington as a model of excellence for the state. In her teaching,
she constantly works to maintain high performances standards while respecting
the demands and pressures that are placed on her multi-talented students.
In March 2005, she was selected as the ‘Director of the Year’ by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. The award acknowledges her outstanding work both as a string educator and conductor.
