Samantha Lowe
Visual Arts, Lexington High School
Samantha Lowe began her teaching at LHS while student teaching with photography teacher Jack Zichittella. She played an integral part in designing the Foundations of Art program, as well as created the Advanced Ceramics curriculum. Ms. Lowe currently teaches all of the photography courses.
Ms. Lowe graduated from the Mass. College of Art with a B.F.A. in Art Education. In addition to student teaching at Lexington High School, she also student taught at the Cotting School here in Lexington and at the Hartwell School in Lincoln (K-4) to earn her K-12 teaching certicifate. She recently finished her master's degree from New York University while studying abroad in Venice, Italy during the summers. Ms. Lowe has traveled extensively throughout Europe and enjoys sharing her knowledge of art history with her students.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Lowe pursues her own love for art by painting with oils and watercolors, as well as black and white photography. She has exhibited in Italy: "Clara e gli Americani" '98/'99 and NYU Venice '98/'99/'00. Locally, she organized a solo exhibit at Seattle's Best Coffee in January 2000.
After being a chaperone on a winter school trip to Belize in '97 to see the Mayan art and archaeology, Ms. Lowe has organized other field trips including itineraries to Greece, Italy and the "Sound of Music" (Prague, Vienna, Salzburg and Venice). In 2001-02 and in 2004-05 there was a tour offered through the Art Department with Ms. Lowe to the Greek Islands during April vacation.
As a community-building event, Ms. Lowe has organized a pottery "Wheel-A-Thon" to raise money for breast cancer research. Her more experienced pottery students literally work on the wheels for 12 hours straight earning sponsor money for their efforts. The event usually takes place in May. In 2000 they raised $3000 and in May 2004 they earned $7000 for this special cause!
