Erin Mahoney is the newest member of the LHS Visual Arts Department, teaching four classes in beginning ceramics and one in advanced ceramics. Ms. Mahoney, a Massachusetts native, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Mass. College of Art in Ceramics, and she completed a year of post-baccalaureate study there to obtain her teaching certification.
Last year she taught at Wachusett Regional High School and while she likes to spend vacation time working with younger children, she greatly enjoys the challenge of teaching high-school students because she can take projects further with older students. Her approach to teaching art is to try to create a community of learners in which everyone is comfortable and creating art together: Art becomes a community experience rather than singular; information is received and given by all.
She finds LHS students motivated and happy; they are excited to be in class and learning. She herself is already excited about the work students are creating.
In teaching ceramics, Ms. Mahoney is following in the footsteps of Ms. Samantha Lowe who has since moved on to her specialty which is Photography.
