Instruments
Students are expected to provide their own instruments in good working condtion and at the appropriate size for use in rehearsals. Many students choose to rent inexpensive instruments to leave at school for rehearsal purposes. An ill-equipped instrument is a detriment to rehearsal. Students should keep extra strings, rosin, a mute, rock stops and a pencil available in their cases. All upper string players must use a shoulder rest or provide a note of explanation form their private teacher requesting that they not use any instrument support. All cellists and bassists must have and use a rock stop or slip strap during all rehearsals and performances.
Honors: Students whose instruments are not maintained in good playing condition or who do not have and use the proper equipment will be considered deficient in the area of preparation.
Rep Orchestra: Students whose instruments are not maintained in good plaing condition or who do not have and use the proper equipment, will receive a lowered grade. |
Storage
All violins and violas must be placed in the storage lockers in the room at the end of rehearsal. Cases and cabinets must be labeled clearly with the student's name. School cellos are stored in their cases in large lockers in the classroom. Private cellos and basses should be stored on the racks or in designated spots. Bows must be placed in the cases. All endpins should be put in for storage. |
Music and Music Folders
Each student is expected to be responsible for his/her folder of music. Music must be brought to each rehearsal and to all concerts. Students should have a pencil available at all times and make appropriate musical and technical markings in the music.
Honors: At least twice during the school year, the conductor may collect the folders and evaluate the markings and preparation of the music.
Rep Orchestra: At least twice during the school year, the conductor will collect the folders and evaluate the markings and condition of the music.
