Private Lessons
All students are strongly encouraged to study with a private instructor. As one source, the Music Department retains a wide variety of highly qualified private instructors that come right to the high school to teach lessons. The list of instructors is posted on the bulletin board in room 131 and is also available on the department website (see link below). The rates, which are set by the Music Department, are as follows: $21.00 - 1/2 hour, $31.50 - 3/4 hour, and $42.00 - full hour. There are also a large number of outstanding private teachers in the Lexington area. Please follow this link for more detailed information:.

Districts and All-State
Each year, the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) holds music festivals in each school district, known as the Junior (grades 7-9) and Senior (grades 9-12) District festivals, as well as a single music festival open to students from any district, known as the "All-State" festival (grades 9-12). These festivals require an audition for participation. While the district auditions are open to any student within the grade ranges listed above, the All-State festival audition is open only to students who were recommended for it based on their Senior District audition score (Junior District participants cannot audition for All-State).
Students are highly encouraged to audition for these honor ensembles. The experience is always musically rich and enjoyable.
Please keep in mind:
1 There are limits to the number of students we can bring to the auditions. If we have too many students auditioning, we will hold a pre-audition at LHS.
2 Freshmen may audition for either the Senior or the Junior District festival.
3 All information regarding audition requirements and dates will be posted.
