Junior District Band
Junior District Band is a chance to play with the best middle school students in the area. It is hard work but very exciting and rewarding. It is open to all 7th, 8th and 9th graders. Pre-auditions may be required, since District regulations set a limit of no more than three auditions per instrument, per school. If you are interested in participating in this group please see Mr. Samour or Mr. Riley as soon as possible. Students may purchase the requisite audition piece at Spectrum Music. Your private teacher will assist you in preparing the required audition piece and scales. All District sign-ups must be completed before Thanksgiving.

The Festival dates are:
Auditions - January 31, 2009
Rehearsals - March 18 and 20, 2009; 3 - 7:30 p.m.
Rehearsal/Performance - March 21, 2009; 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.
If you cannot make ALL of these dates DO NOT SIGN UP.

Music
The required text for sixth grade is Standard of Excellence Bk. II ENHANCED VERSION and Foundations for Superior Performance for grade seven and eight. Both are available at Spectrum Music in Lexington Center.
Whenever music is handed out each band member will receive a copy. Put your name on it in pencil. Each sheet of grade six band music must be taped into your Standard of Excellence Book II.
Everybody must have a music folder with their name on it (both inside and out). When you take the music home to practice, take the whole folder, so that nothing is easily lost.
If any music is lost, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to borrow a friend's music and make a copy for yourself or see the band manager before the next rehearsal.

Broken Instruments
If an instrument is unavailable for a rehearsal due to a repair being performed upon it, your grade will NOT be affected providing you have a note signed by an adult to that effect. This does not cover having no functioning reeds or broken instruments that are not currently in the repair process. You may contact the rental comopany that you received your instrument from for repair or the National Music In Woburn or Wood & Strings in Arlington.

Concert Dress
Concert dress is always the same.
Ladies - Black (or dark) skirt or slacks and white blouse.
Men - Black (or dark) slacks and socks, plain white shirt, long tie and footwear in good condition.
For the Patriots Day Parade all persons will wear:
White shirt, black pants, black shoes
If you have a BLUE “LEXINGTON” style jacket please plan to use it. Otherwise, a “Lexington blue” sweatshirt is fine.

Concert Attendance and Schedule
The Middle School Bands play at least three major concerts during the year and participate in the Patriots Day Parade. These concerts are a required part of the curriculum. Think of them as mid-year exams. You would not skip an exam. If you must miss a concert, you must bring a note from home BEFORE the concert unless it was an unforeseen emergency in which case we must have a note by the NEXT BAND PERIOD. An unexcused absence from a concert is like a ZERO on a test. The best grade you can get for the quarter is a 'C'. Attendance will be taken at concerts. This year’s concerts are:
