Dear Parents and Students New to LHS,

Welcome to the Lexington High School community and a new school year. The move to Lexington High School marks the beginning of a new experience for you and your son or daughter. Our outstanding academic program and our wide range of co-curricular activities provide our students with many choices and opportunities to explore interests and expand horizons. We encourage our students to get involved in the numerous sports, clubs and activities that are a large part of LHS student life. These activities provide connections with other students, connections that are so important in making the transition to a new school.

To help familiarize you with the school we have enclosed our Field Guide for Parents New to Lexington High School, containing answers to questions that new parents often have about LHS and the high school experience. Please read it and share it with your student. Three other documents that contain essential detailed information about LHS offerings and policies are:

the LHS Program of Studies which students received at the time of course selections in the spring;
the LHS Student/Parent Handbook which is mailed at the beginning of the school year;
and the Communication Guide which is available online.

In addition, parents are encouraged to subscribe to the Lexington High School list server maintained by the PTSA. Emergency and time-sensitive updates are sent using the list server. Directions to sign up are available at < http://lhs.lexingtonma.org/PTSA/subscribe.html>.

Like you, I am new to Lexington High School and am still learning who’s who, where things are located, and when I’m supposed to be where. Feel free to come in any time or call us, and we’ll search for the answers together! Over the past several weeks I’ve been exploring the buildings, reading school publications and meeting faculty and staff. I can say with great confidence that this is a terrific place to learn and grow

I look forward to getting to know you.

Sincerely,
Natalie K. Cohen, Principal
