Congratulations to our Siemens winners:
Brittney Joyce and Andrew Walsh, have been named Regional Finalists in the Siemens Competition for their paper "Investigating the Spread of Bird Flu: A Phylogenetic Analysis of Influenza Subtype H5N1". They are one of 30 group finalists across the country, divided into six regions, selected out of a total of over 1300 projects submitted to the Competition. They competed at MIT on November 6 and 7 with the other four finalists from our region.

Intel Science Talent Search semi-finalists named:
2 LHS seniors, Mark Chonofsky and Genesis Lung have been named semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. Mark's project was "Phylogeny of the Taxaceae Inferred from Phytochrome Sequences" and Genesis Lung's project was "High-Variance Comparative Genomic Methodology: A Bacteriophage Case Study". Both students have been working in these areas since their sophomore years.

The Intel Science Talent Search is one of the oldest and most prestigious national programs designed to recognize outstanding student research.

2010 LHS SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR
WHEN:    Tuesday, March 2, 2010
TIME:       Projects will be judged from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m. the fair will open to the public until 8:30. Students can decide whether or not to stay with their projects for the public segment of the evening. Please NOTE that the projects are NOT be removed from the field house until the fair officially closes at 8:30 p.m.
