Every year for the past 20 years between 15 and 20 Lexington High School students have participated in the French Exchange program with our sister school, Lycée Descartes in Antony, which is the official sister city of Lexington. In 2000 Antony named a town square "Place Lexington" and the occasion was celebrated by a good-sized delegation from Lexington, including Minutemen representatives in full uniform! The Spanish Exchange has alternated between Costa Rica and Spain since 2001. In 2006/2007 the exchange will be with the Colegio Conservatorio de Castella, Heredia, Costa Rica.

The highly successful Mandarin program launched its first-ever student exchange with our new sister school in Hangzhou, China this fall. Nine students and their teacher will travel Hanzhou in the spring of 2006.

We expect to establish exchanges with Italy and Germany for the 2006-2007 academic year, having offered cultural trips to these countries for the past several years.

Honduras Community Service Project
For the past 3 years a teacher in the Spanish program has led a 13-day community service project in Honduras.

Total Immersion Programs

French
Every year approximately 25 students from Lexington High School attend a 5-week summer French immersion program at Université Sainte Anne of Nova Scotia. Students return in the fall with incredible enthusiasm and confidence, often skipping an entire year of French because of the progress they have made.

Spanish
Last year a Spanish teacher initiated a 3-week summer immersion program in Costa Rica, at the Centro Panamericano de Idiomas. 12 students attended this program. In the summer of 2006 the Spanish immersion program will be offered in Salamanca, Spain, at the Delibes Language School.
