We are contacting you for your support and to give you an update on the Lexington Skateboard/Inline Skate Park. Our committee has raised over $81,000 dollars in cash and donations of services. Now only $15,000 is needed to start skating this summer.
Grants secured by the Police Department: $13,900
Local Businesses and Citizens: $17,100
One Anonymous Lexington Family: $20,000
MDR Construction donation of in-kind services: $30,000
Other communities have realized that building a local skate park serves the needs of their youth. Just as playgrounds give young children opportunities to develop, a skate park would provide the same for older children - a safe, fun place to develop physically and socially. Current research shows that physical activity decreases at this age, yet, stress rises. Skating is a healthy activity for youth that should be supported by our community.
In response, community members, including parents and a safety expert, are working together to build Lexington Skateboard/Inline Skate Park. The project has the support of the Police, Recreation, and School Departments and the Lexington Board of Selectmen. The Town of Lexington has provided a parcel of town-owned land for building the park off Worthen Road.
The centrally located, professionally designed skate park will be a safe environment away from the dangers of the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots, drastically reducing the risk of injuries to skaters and others. We need to raise a total of $65,000 to complete the park, with $15,000 allowing us to open the park this summer.
Due to town budget constraints, funding for constructing the park needs to be secured from private donations and grants. Please print this letter and fill out the form below to make a tax-deductible contribution of any amount. Thank you for your generous donation.
