
Computers will play an important role in your future. This course will emphasize the application of computers to such activities as presentation, information processing and decision making. The course will prepare students to create presentations, edit images, create graphics, begin web page construction and beginning computer programming. Classes will be activity and project-based. Use of the internet will be an integral part of most projects. Previous computer experience is not a prerequisite, and students from all grades and all academic levels are encouraged to enroll.
Course Goals
- Students should be able to design and implement computer-based solutions to problems using Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Students should be able to utilize iPhoto and Photoshop Elements to create and manipulate images and photographs.
- Students should be able to utilize GarageBand to create and manipulate music.
- Students should be able to design and implement computer based-solutions to problems using Macromedias Studio MX. Including Fireworks, Freehand and Dreamweaver.
- Students should be able to read and write small programs utilizing the Scratch software.
- Students should be able to recognize the ethical and social implications of computer use.
Grading Policy
Projects are one form of assessment in this course. This is your opportunity to familiarize yourself with new material. For each assignment you are required to submit electronically your file on or before the given due-date. Scoring of projects are detailed in each separate assignment.
Exercises will occur occasionally each quarter. These assignments will be brief, and not require a computer therefore they must be submitted on time unless there is a valid excuse.
Each quarter projects will be approximately 80% of the grade, exercises will be 20% of the grade. Exact quarter percentages may change based on the number and type of assignments given each quarter.
Classroom Policies
All school policies apply to the classroom. In addition, No food or drinks are to be brought into the computer lab.
Consideration for others and behavior in accordance with the rules of the school must guide personal conduct in both the classroom and the computer lab. In particular, violation of computer usage guidelines may result in loss of computer privileges. Note also that credit is given only for a student's own work. Work handed in that is not the students own work will earn a zero for all involved.
Each student is assigned a computer account through the school, and they are held responsible for any activity that occurs under their account.
