Rearranging the Schedule

Given that half of the class will be at the band field trip on
Thursday, the schedule will be rearranged as follows:

           HW finish worksheet and p.329/35-38

2/01  Mixed Integrals Day 2
HW Worksheet due on Monday, 2/05

2/02  Integration Big Quiz

2/05  Euler's Method
2/06  Initial Value Problems
2/08  Separation of Variables revisited
2/09  Solving Exponential Problems
2/12  Solving Logistic Problems
2/13  Review
2/15  Ch 6 Test
2/17  Area between Curves
2/18-2/25 February Vacation

Integration Quizzes

We will be having our quick integration quizzes on the following
dates:

1/22, 1/23, 1/26, 1/29, and 1/30.

Keep up with the homework and make sure you understand the
techniques taught each day.  The term ends on the 26th  so the last
two will be on Term 3.  There will be a large integration quiz on
the 1st of February.  There will also be a worksheet of many
mixed integrals that we will work on in class but it is challenging
and you will have extra time to work on it before turning it in.

Note:  There is a typo in the previously posted syllabus.  We have
class on the 25th, not the 24th.

Indefinite Integrals and the Substitution Technique

We will begin Chapter 6 but we will not be doing the chapter in order. We will start with all of the integration techniques and then go on to solving problems with integration.  There will be almost daily 2-3 problem integration quizzes leading up to the Integration "Big" Quiz.

1/18  Indefinite Integrals [6.1]
           HW p.312/3, 4, 6, 7-21 odd

1/19  Substitution Day 1 [6.2]
           HW p.321-322/1-29 odd

1/22  Substitution Day 2 [6.2]
           HW p.322-323/31-43 odd, 47, 48, 50, 51

1/23  Integration by Parts Day 1 [6.3]
           HW p.328/1-4, 9, 11

1/24  Integration by Parts Day 2 [6.3]
           HW p.328-329/`13, 15, 19-22, 27, 29

1/26  Partial Fraction Integrals [8.4]
           HW p.452-453/1, 5, 7-12, 27, 28, 30, 47

Derivatives of Integrals

We looked at the Mean Value Theorem for Integrals and
different ways of evaluating the derivative of integrals.
We now have four things to look at when we see a function:
the original function, the first derivative, the second
derivative and the integral.  Each tells us a different piece
of information.

The Chapter 5 Quiz

Friday the 12th brings us to the assessment for
Chapter 5, Definite Integrals.

All that is left is to talk about the Trapezoidal Rule,
Simpson's Rule, and Review.

The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus

The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus proves that Integration
and Differentiation are inverses of each other. Obviously it is
very important. Know it.

1/04 HW p.286/1-18, 29, 30
1/05 HW p.286-288/31-41 odd, 43-46, 52, 53, 55
