Derivative = Rates of Change

We looked at rates of change with tangents and then, with the Bike Ride Lab, with velocity, before taking our test for Chapter 2.

We are starting Chapter 3 which focusses on Derivatives (the rate of change of functions).

Day 1   3.1  Definitions p.102-104/15-27 odd
Day 2   3.1  Smoothness and Numerical Derivatives
Day 3   3.2  Differentiability p.111-112/1-10, 11-21 odd, 31
Day 4   3.3  Rules of Differentiation p.120/2-32 even
Day 5   3.4  Velocity & other Rates of Chng p.129-133/1-31 odd
Day 6         Summative and Extension Problems
 ***     1.6  Trig Review
10/5            Quiz 3.1 - 3.4

Rates of Change

The last section of chapter 2 is a wrap-up about rates of change
being the slope of the curve being the slope of the tangent line.
Here is the homework:

p.87-89/3, 6, 7-33 odd

Continuity

Section 2.3 deals with Continuity - in both intervals and
entire functions (be careful with the definition of a
continuous function - look at its domain!).

9/10 or 11  CW p.77/Exploration;  p.81/31, 32
           HW p.80-81/3-33 by 3's

9/12  CW p.81/45
           HW p.81/34-44, 49

If we didn't get to the classwork listed above, take a
look at it.  You still need to understand it.
