The next problem set and a potentially useful web site

Problem Set 7 is available here.  It only has two problems - one you can do before the test and one that you will need to do after the test (it requires some Chapter 4 instruction).<

I am still hopeful that I will get the answer keys to this weeks worksheets posted before the weekend.

Lastly, there is a web page with a math game that might be helpful in the optimizing ideal (though it will not be helpful if you get addicted to it...)  http://hoodamath.com/games/coffeeshop.php

Linear Programming

We will finish off our study of linear systems by looking at a topic called linear programming. It is used to find the optimum solution to a very complicated situation involving many constraints. We will spend several days on this.  All of the homework will be finishing the daily worksheets.

10/27  Linear Word Problems
(write and graph the systems from the words)
10/28  Linear Programming - Day 1
(writing, graphing, and using systems of inequalities)
10/29  Linear Programming - Day 2
(write the system when the info is imbedded in the problem)
10/30  Review
11/03  Chapter 3 Test
(Systems of Equalities and Inequalities, Linear Programming)

Typo in Problem Set 6

I apologize but I found a typo in the first system problem 2.  The last equation should have z/4 not 4z/3.  I have uploaded a corrected version of the problem set. Clicking on the link in the previous message will give you the corrected version.

Problem Set 6

The next problem set deals with systems on linear equalities and inequalities. It is available on FirstClass in word or here as a pdf file.

Next up, Systems of Equations

Our next topic is to review systems of equations, and then use them to solve problems. Since not everything is equal, we will have systems of inequalities too.  Lots of graphing fun!

10/21  Transformation Quiz
Solving systems of equations: graphing, substitution,
            elimination HW p.161/27-39 by 3's (all three ways);
             p.162/53;   p.169/36,37

10/22  Linear Inequalities  HW p.17/42-51

10/23  Systems of Linear Inequalities (and Problem Set 5 due)
            HW p.183-184/33 - 45 by 3's, 46

Problem Set 5

The next problem set is more of a calculator exploration and a tiny project. Have fun with it!  It is uploaded in FirstClass and downloadable in pdf form here.

Transformations

The transformations syllabus is squeezed into the many days off.  The schedule listed is again the A-Block schedule - G-Block just needs to move Wed/Thur assignments to Thur/Fri (except for the problem set!).

10/07  Transformation Exploration  HW finish note sheet
10/08  Graphical Practice  HW finish handout
10/09  Yom Kippur - no school

10/13  Columbus Day - no school
10/14  Transformation Word Problems  HW finish handout by Monday
10/15  Combined Horizontal Transformations and Prob. Set 4 due.
10/16  Professional Development Day - no school

10/20  Transformation Review
10/21  Transformation Quiz, start Ch 3 with Systems of Equations

The Test and The Problem Set

The test on Monday covers all of the following topics:
Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities
Function vs Relations
Function Notation
Domain and Range
Function Operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, compose)
Inverses
Piecewise Functions

Given the number of classes we are missing the next few weeks, the fourth problem set is posted (here) but will not be due until Tuesday, October 14th (the day after Columbus Day).  It covers Transformations a topic we will start on Tuesday.
