Next up for Exponential and Log functions

We continue studying exponential and log functions after vacation.  Here is the general outline:

4/27  Properties of Logs
4/28  Quiz on Exp and Log skills, Compound and Continuous Interest

Days of Application (Word) Problems and then a test, probably on May 4th or 5th.

The newest problem set (download here) is due on Tuesday, May 5th.  After Monday's class you will have everything you need to do the problems.

Practice Questions and old test

You can download a set of practice questions, an old test (ignore the log questions) and a list of topics for you to peruse and use for practice. Work hard and make me proud!

Exponential and Logarithm partial syllabus

Here is the schedule for this week:

4/13  More practice with exp and log equations, a different base
4/14  Computer Lab 700 to review for 3/4 exam
4/15  A-Block: creating exponential functions from word problems
4/16  3/4 Year Cumulative Exam
4/17  G-Block: creating exponential functions from word problems

After vacation we will continue with exponential and log functions.  There will be a quiz on the skills we are learning on Tuesday, April 28th.  We will be doing a lot more application problems and learning some of the properties of log functions.  It will probably take another 2 weeks.  There will be a problem set the week we get back.  The material is in chapter 6 of the textbook but I am not following their order of presentation at all so the book may only be useful at the end.

Intro to Exponential Functions and Logarithms

In the two days of class after the radical test but before Good Friday, we will explore exponential functions and their inverse, logarithms. The problems on the handouts should all be completed by Monday.

Note, problem 3 on the exponential handout has messy answers. Replace them with these:
3. a] f(1)=2, f(4)=0.25
   b] f(2)=10.8,  f(3)=32.4
   c] f(0)=-5,  f(1)=-13.5
   d] f(-1)=0.2,  f(2)=0.675

Next week we are in the computer lab (room 700) on Tuesday to review for the 3/4 year Cumulative exam.  On Thursday is the exam.
