Tues 10/25 2.5 cont.
Wed 10/26 2.6 Complex Zeros and the Fundamental Theorem of Alg.
Fri 10/28 2.2 & 2.7 Power and Rational Functions
Tues 11/1 2.8 Inequalities
Wed 11/2 Extra pratice with theorems and proofs
Fri 11/4 3.1 (even day -> can't test, have to start a new chapter)
Mon 11/7 Test of all of Chapter 2, focus on 2.5 to 2.8

Here are the classwork and homework assignments that are required:

  • p.225-227/3-39 by 3's,44,46,51,53,57 (complex zeros)

  • Classwork: power and rational groupwork problems

  • Brown: p.35-36/31-40 (complex zeros)

  • p. 185/29-34 (power functions)

  • p.236-238/3-36 by 3's, 65 (rational functions)

  • p.246/3-24 by 3's, 29, 41 (inequalities)

I will tell you when I want things done. Assume, unless it says otherwise,
that all the assignments are from the Demana text.

Complex Number Intro

We are working through 2.5 over the course of two days.
Your homework needs to be completed by Wednesday but
don't wait until Tuesday night to start.

pp.218-220/[Quick Review]8,10
[regular]6-8,14-16,23,24,26,27,31,32,

If you miss class, make sure you have done those as well.

Extra Word Problems

In my First Class conference for each class is a folder called
"Class Worksheets." In this folder you will find a document called
Extra Word Problems in both Word and pdf formats. Please download
the worksheet and complete the five problems for Monday.

If you have not already downloaded First Class, go to www.firstclass.com
and join the party.

Zeros of Polynomial Functions

The schedule is as follows: I will lecture on Friday and Monday;
you - as a class - will go over all the homework problems on
Tuesday plus some extra, wrap-up problems; Wednesday I will
take your list of unsolvable problems and go over them. Any last
concerns will be dealt with.

Friday the 21st is the test of 2.1, 2.3, 2.4 (Demana section numbers).

Don't wait until Monday night to do all of these problems! (Or Tuesday!!)

Demana p.208-212/3-36 by 3's, 49-55 odd, 74
Brown: p.61/9-21 odd, 16, 25

Hint: for Demana #74 -> Remember that you have two books to reference. For Brown #25 -> "use factor theorem" does not mean divide.

Looking at Higher Degree Polynomials

We started section 2.3 with a grand slam of information about
what polynomial functions look like as x goes to zero, to infinity
and around the zeros. Tomorrow we will practice some more
but we won't have homework in honor of Yom Kippur.

p. 196-198/3-30 by 3's, 38, 41, 45, 46, 51, 54, 60, 65, 73

More Word Problems

I thought I had posted this on Friday...

More modeling word problems.

Demana: p.76/problem 45 and pp.171-174/55, 57, 67, 69

Brown: pp. 42-43/38, 44

We will be skipping section 2.2. This week we will do sections
2.3 and 2.4 with an assessment of 2.1-2.4 coming soon. Then we
add sections 2.5 through 2.8 before assessing the whole chapter.

Quiz and then...

Monday is the quiz on section 1.5 and 1.6, Transformations
and Modeling. Look over the old tests linked on the web site.
You can also make up your own problems and check your
answers with your calculator. Next week we will start
Chapter 2 but you will do the first, review section on your
own since we only have class on Monday and Friday.

Homework due Friday, October 7th:
Read Section 2.1
Do pp.169-174/10, 12, 19-39 odd, 49, 51, 54, 68, 70, 71
