Re-expression of Data

We touched on transformations of logarithmic and exponential
functions today. Make sure you remember how transformations
work. We also worked through some re-expression of data
problems (a way of graphing data that makes it easier to
extract visual information). Finish the packet we started in
class. In addition,

pp.314/45,46,51,52

Modeling with exponentials and logs

Finish the worksheet with the word problems and transformation
problems. Then do the following problems from the book:

p.313-314/3-15 by 3's, 22, 23, 29, 31, 35, 42, 44

Log Functions 3.3 and 3.4

Monday is spent talking about the inverse of the exponential function,
the logarithmic function.

HW p.291-293/1-17 odd, 19-22, 27-51 by 3's, 55, 58, 67

Tuesday is spent going over the properties of logs (with worksheet).

HW p.299-300/1, 3-15 by 3's, 17, 21, 24-42 by 3's

Remember, any worksheet given in class should be finished as
homework if need be.

Modeling Exponential and Logistic Functions

After a hectic day in class covering all sorts of modeling issues,
you have four days to get through the problems. Enjoy.

Exp and Logistic Functions

Now that you can do anything with exponential functions
including changing to other bases (like e) and putting
them into other functions to make bounded logistic functions,
we will begin attacking word problems (eg. modeling).

Starting Exponential Functions

We started Chapter 3 ever so briefly on Friday.
I have a worksheet covering everything I tried to
say that day. It is available for downloading from
the Class Worksheets folder in our class conference
or by downloading it here.
The associated homework is to read pp.259-264
and to do pp.270/1-19 odd, 25-30, 31-35 odd.
