More with Transformations

We are continuing to work with transformations, especially those pesky double horizontal transformations.

Welcome to Transformations

We are starting an exploration of transformations - what happens
when you take a basic function and transform into something similar
but different!  For our post-test homework, look at the Brown book:

read p. 139-142
do p.143-144/5 - 10

The rest of our study will be back in the Demana book (section 1.5)
and via worksheets.

Combinations, Composition and Inverses

Section 1.4 really delves into working with functions and understanding
how they operate.  We are spending several days on this one section
using a variety of supplementary handouts (in class and at home).

9/11  p.122-125/1-19 odd, 33-51 odd, 57, 58, 66
9/14  Function Descriptions and Combinations Worksheet
9/17  Describing Functions/Finding Inverses Worksheet

Ten (Eleven?) Basic Functions

We looked at the ten Basic Functions and described all
of them using our function descriptive vocabulary.  I also
added Logistic Functions (given that sine(x) and cosine(x)
are so similar).

HW p.105-106/3-33 by 3's, 41, 44, 45
Note:  For 41 and 45, prove your results, don't just state
them (this is more than the directions ask for).

Hello and welcome to the homework blog!

Here is the homework from the first week+ of class. So far we have been
concentrating on ways of describing functions. Next week we will look at
basic functions and apply our descriptive vocabulary to them.
