Homework and announcements

Homework is generally posted on the day it is assigned. Assignments are due at the next class, unless otherwise stated. If an assignment is given in class but doesn't get posted here for whatever reason, you're still responsible for it.

About college recommendations

If you are in the Class of 2010 and want me to write one of your college recommendations, see this information page on recommendations. The first step is to complete a brief survey (linked from that page, if you didn't get it in class on June 24) and mail it to me by June 30. Next, bookmark that page and return to it in September for instructions about what you'll need to do in the fall.

If you have questions about recommendations or any other issue, feel free to e-mail me over the summer. Except during a few brief trips, I'll be checking e-mail often.

Final Projects 6/1-6/16

The non-seniors in the course will be spending the last few weeks working on group projects. In class on Monday 6/1, we agreed on how to split the class into two groups of four, and on which projects would be done by each group.

One group will complete project 8.1 by Tuesday 6/9 and project 8.2 by Thursday 6/17.

The other group will learn about Fourier series, then complete project 8.8 by Thursday 6/17.

(The project numbers refer to project descriptions from the Contemporary Calculus textbook, which are the starting points for the projects.)

Announcement: makeup quizzes

If you took less than four of the five quizzes during the AP review unit, you have to take some makeup quizzes. (I'll read a list of students who need to do makeups during class on Fri. 5/8. If you are absent for that class and are unsure of your status, e-mail me.)

These makeup quizzes must be taken between Mon. 5/11 and Thu. 5/14. You can take them by seeing the teacher on duty in room 820 anytime during the school day, or seeing me in person after school any day except Wed. 5/13.

HW due Tue. 5/12

There's no homework due Mon. 5/11 as our class falls during the AP Physics exams which many students are taking.

The homework due Tue. 5/12 is from the packet "13.3 Partial Derivatives," exercises 1-4, 5-29 odd, 35, 37-40, 45, 47, 90, 91. (Students present for class on Monday will have that class period to work on this assignment. All students should have it done before Tuesday.)

HW due Fri. 5/8

In the handout packet "13.1 Introduction to Functions of Several Variables," exercises 31, 33, 35, 37, 43 (skip confirming), 45-48, 49-59 odd, 63-66.

There's no homework due Thu. 5/7.
Friday, May 1, 2009

HW due Mon. 5/4 and Tue. 5/5

Your homework is to review for the AP exam in whatever way is most useful to you, but one possibility would be to try the problems from the 2008 AP exam. (These were distributed on Friday, and are also on the AP site.)

Also: Class on Monday 5/4 will be an open question-and-answer session. Please bring at least one good question to ask, related to anything in the AP curriculum.
Thursday, April 30, 2009

HW due Fri. 5/1

Five AP problems about parametric, vector, and polar were distributed: 2007 BC-3, 2005 BC-2, 2007(Form B) BC 2, 2008(Form B) BC 1, and 2004(Form B) BC 1. (If you were absent, all of these can be found on the AP web site linked in the right column.) Do as many of these problems as needed, but feel free to spend your time differently if there are other topics where you are more in need of reviewing.

There will be one more review quiz on Friday. It may be on any topic from the AP curriculum.
