Homework and announcements

Homework is generally posted on the day it is assigned. Assignments are due at the next class, unless otherwise stated. If an assignment is given in class but doesn't get posted here for whatever reason, you're still responsible for it.

June project

Juniors remaining in the course in June are working on a group project (selected from 9 project ideas from the Contemporary Calculus textbook). Class meetings will be held on these dates:

  • G block: 6/4, 6/5*, 6/7*, 6/8*, 6/12*, 6/13, 6/15 (project presentation). [*=meeting with Mrs. Haupt]

  • H block: 5/31, 6/13, 6/14(first group presents project), 6/15 (other two groups present projects). On the days that we don't have a class meeting you are expected to be working with your group on the project during class time.

Both classes also have one more meeting on 6/20.

Please return your books on Thursday.

no HW due Fri. 5/18

There's no homework due at this class because all seniors will be on a field trip. For non-seniors, at Friday's class we will have an initial discussion of the projects that you'll be doing in June.
Tuesday, May 15, 2007

HW due Thu. 5/17

These are the two assignments for the first half of this week, due Thursday:

  • Problems from the “Functions of Several Variables” packet: pp. 49–51 problems 1(a–f), 2, 4, 6, 8, 9. These problems are based on Tuesday's lecture, or on pp. 14–29 of the reading in the packet.
  • AP Exam solutions: Do the following assignment with a partner from your class. It’s OK to split up the work, but make sure you check each other. Your joint submission will count for a grade for both of you.
Make a solution and scoring page for each of the 6 free response problems from this year’s AP Calculus BC exam. Follow the style of the published AP solution sheets. Use a word processor and/or neat handwriting. It is up to you to decide a reasonable way to allocate the 9 points for each problem.

HW due Mon. 5/14 (G) or Tue. 5/15 (H)

Thursday's lecture covered the contents of pages 1-13 of the handout packet "Functions of Several Variables." The homework is a sheet of problems also distributed in class, titled "Homework for pp. 1-13 of the 'Functions of Several Variables' packet."

HW 5/4-5/8

Your homework is to prepare for the AP exam on Wednesday 5/9. You'll receive some practice problems in class, and there are always more on the College Board web site.

Cancelled classes: H block will not meet on the AP exam day, Wednesday 5/9. Both classes are cancelled on Friday 5/11.
Tuesday, May 01, 2007

HW due Wed. 5/2 (H) or Thu. 5/3 (G)

Do the set of AP multiple-choice questions numbered 76-92 distributed in class on Tuesday (Part IB of the 1998 exam).
Friday, April 27, 2007

Test Tue. 5/1

On Tuesday 5/1, we will have a set of AP multiple choice questions in class that will count as a test.

Review week 4/23-4/27

All this week, we are doing review activities in preparation for the AP exam. These include:

  • One-question free response quizzes: Mon./Thu./Fri. for G block, Tue./Thu./Fri. for H block. (The Mon./Tue. quizzes were on differential equations, the Thu. quiz's topic was not announced in advance, and the Fri. quiz will be on integrals and their applications.)
  • Other past AP problems tried and then discussed in class.
  • Question-and-answer day: Tue. for G block, Wed. for H block. We will also have a second day like this next week (Mon. 4/30 for G, Tue. 5/2 for H).
  • Independent studying throughout the week. I suggest focusing especially on whatever topics may be areas of relative weakness for you at this point. The AP topic outline may be very helpful to use as a checklist.
  • Remember that I'm almost always available for extra help after school. (However, Friday 4/27 is one of the few exceptions. I won't be available that afternoon.)
