CLASS GUIDELINES

Mrs. King

1. Objectives: The objectives for this course are as described in the Program of Studies.

2. Class Materials: You should have a math notebook, covered book, and pen or pencil in class every day. Not being prepared for class will result in your receiving a zero. Example problems on the board should be copied into your notebook and homework should be done in your notebook.

3. Grading: Quarter grades will be determined by tests, quizzes, projects and labs (quizzes are 1/5 of a test). Homework and class participation count for 10-15% of the quarter grade. The final grade will be the average of the four quarter grades and the final exam which will count for 20% of your grade.

4. Homework - GIVEN EVERY DAY: Homework is sometimes collected, but checked every day. Homework is considered "not done" if it is in your locker or otherwise not with you in class. If you do not understand the homework, go for help or at least copy the problems into your notebook to get credit for attempting to complete the assignment.

5. Tests and Quizzes: Numerical grades are used to grade all tests and quizzes. I like to quiz often. Quizzes and test will be announced in advance. Cheating will result in an automatic failure. It is to your benefit to be in class when we go over tests or quizzes so that you can learn from your mistakes and possibly even catch any mistakes that I have made in correcting your paper (to your benefit). Once you have left the classroom, I will NOT change your grade.

6. Extra Help: If you need extra help, please make arrangements with me in class or at my desk. I will be available during my non-teaching blocks (to be announced) by appointment. Ask for help immediately if there is material you do not understand. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE A TEST OR QUIZ TO SEEK HELP.

7. Attendance: Regular attendance is important for success in mathematics. Make every effort to attend and participate in classroom discussions and activities. If you are tardy you should make your entrance as quietly as possible. If you have a pass place it on my desk. If you do not have a pass you will be asked to serve detention with me before school after your third unexcused tardy and each one thereafter.

8. Absences: When you are absent, have someone get your assignments for you. Come for help the day you return. If you are absent and miss a test, quiz, or other assignment, you will have one week from the day of your return to complete the missed work. You must see me to arrange a time to make up all work and any tests or quizzes missed. Unexcused absences will be handled according to school policy, resulting in a zero for the missed work.

9. Dismissals: If you're leaving school and will miss class, or you are in school but will miss class for some legitimate reason (for example, nurse), see me for the assignment. You are responsible for all missed work. If we have a quiz or test the next day, you must take it; you are expected to have your homework the next day like everyone else. On the day of an announced quiz, it is necessary to see me as soon as possible if you are leaving school.

10. Excused From Class: You will not be excused from class for the purpose of going to your locker to get your book, homework, etc. Go to your locker before class and arrive on time.

11. Behavior: Use common sense. Please keep the room clean. Do not litter and do not write on the desks. Desk tops and tables are not meant to support your weight. Treat your neighbor with respect. Don't leave your seat to throw something in the garbage or sharpen a pencil while someone is talking.
