Expiration of GPA Bill extension w/ motion to grant an additional extension until March 15, Substitute Bill Redux, Sophomore Limited Open Campus Bill

Minutes from Meeting: 1-5-05

I. Call to Order

Meeting is called to order at 7:51 by Moderator Skier

II. Approval of Minutes

Motion Approved Motion by Chair to approve Minutes of last meeting

III. Approval of Agenda

Motion Approved Motion by Chair to approve Agenda

a. Executive Committee removes the agenda item entitled

"United Voices' petition for Senate Seat"

IV. Announcements

a. no announcements

V. Committee Reports

Policy 1. Met to discuss Military Recruitment Bill and currently

working on a new wording of the bill

VI. Open Comments

a. Ass't Moderator Williams raises the point that the substitute

teachers discussion ended before the executive committee was

able to find out if any senator wanted to create a bill pertaining

to the issues raised; come see the executive committee if you

are interested in writing such a bill

b. Dr. Jones explains that the superintendent has requested that

no individual tsunami relief fund raisers be organized before

the Lexington school system can concert its efforts as a whole

in order to benefit as many victims as possible; the possibility

of focusing our efforts on helping children has been raised

VII. Tsunami Relief Fund Raiser

a. Everyone is very concerned about the tsunami relief efforts

and as a significant leadership body, senate should lead

a relief effort

b. In light of Dr. Jones' address, senate should wait before

organizing its own relief effort

c. When an organized relief effort is decided on by the whole

Lexington public school community, senate should take a

strong leadership role

VIII. Discussion of Communications Committees' HR

announcements request

a. Do announcements have expiration dates?; Yes, they do and

Senator Kim cannot ignore these dates

b. The Communications Committee could post a message on the

announcements web page that would place limits on expiration

dates

c. People should place limits on their the expiration dates so that

Senator Kim does not have to deal with so many

announcements at one time
