IX. Discussion of Community Service Bill

a. There is a desire to help large groups of people instead of

approving individual community service hours which often are

abused

b. The system may be abused, but should not be killed; instead, it

should be reformed

c. What are some examples of abuse?

d. Religious camps that have legitimate hours are denied, while

others stay in their own neighborhoods, but technically have to

be approved

e. Does this bill eliminate other required community service hours

like Open Campus?; No

f. Community Service is mandatory volunteering and should not

be required

g. Community service makes kids get up and be active around

their communities

h. This required service one must do seems like the community

service one has to do when arrested

i. Community Service is like school, which is mandatory, but

some people get something out of it; this makes it worthwhile

j. There may be management issues, but the idea of community

service as a requirement at LHS is not flawed
