Minutes from Meeting: 9-14-05
I. Call to Order: Meeting is called to order at 7:55 by Moderator Lubershane
II. Approval of Minutes: Minutes approved.
III. Approval of Agenda: Agenda approved.
IV. Announcements:
1) Former executive committee has sent a letter about Don't Ask Don't
Tell according to the resolution. We have gotten one response back.
2) Senate orientation packet is available.
V. Open Comments:
1) Those willing to contribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina should
get in touch with Senator Bogart.
2) Bills not on agenda require 2/3 vote to be introduced.
VI. Committee Reports:
1) Elections for freshmen class is scheduled to be on October 11th.
2) Social Action committee has met to discuss community service.
VII. New Business
1) Motion to give GSA a seat on senate. GSA should receive a seat on
senate because student perspective is needed. Kim Douglas is here to
represent GSA.
2) Senator Zagaeski expresses support for GSA seat.
3) GSA seat approved.
1) Motion to go into an informal discussion of community service for today.
2) There should be a cap on this discussion because we want to break
into committees.
3) We need more time to look at the long packet.
4) Many oppose the motion because of the nature of informal discussion.
5) Motion fails.
1) Motion to introduce Voting Records Bill.
2) It should be placed before community service bill because it
determines how we report to the community.
3) Motion to put a cap of 10 minutes on discussion. Approved.
4) Motion to introduce bill fails. 13-20.
Break into committees.
