2006-2007
Moderator Peter Krensky, Assistant Moderator Larry David, Secretary Danny Metzger-Traber
I. Call to Order: Meeting is called to order at 7:52 by Moderator Krensky
II. Approval of Minutes:
1) Minutes approved
III. Approval of Agenda:
1) Change Homeroom Sanity to Homeroom Announcements Sanity
2) Change "our very first veto" to discussion of veto
IV. Announcements:
1) Write you names on the sheet being passed around for a list of committee assignments
V. Open Comments:
1) NHS Talent show tomorrow night at 7
2) There's a Teddy Bear drive going on, bring them into homeroom
VI. Committee Reports:
1) Climates got Bills Bills Bills
2) Policy met, discussed HRAS bill and Integrity of the Transcript bill
3) Social Action voted to move community service folders back into house system
VII. Discussion of Veto:
1) Dr. Jones is buying into community service report, but wants an opportunity to open it to faculty
2) The point of these bills was to ensure that the CSC report didn't disappear
3) The wording of his veto is insulting, as there are many members of senate on faculty who try their best to keep their finger on the pulse of the faculty
4) Discussion in faculty meeting raised a lot of concerns with teachers over what sort of extra work would be loaded on teachers
5) While intentions are clear, no rationale other than that the Faculty has not met, stopped a good yet small step in the right direction
6) Would hold off on transcript integrity bill for now
7) Seems like a fairly minor matter and should not have provoked a veto. We have started policies which extend to full school, we should keep pushing
VIII. Homeroom
Announcements Sanity Bill:
1) Why can't communications committee just implement these rules?
2) Well, there is a lot of confusion over what is an announcement, there needs to be clarification, as a school, we need to examine how we are using first class
3) We shouldn't put moderators in the position of determining these things
4) Amend: change minimum to maximum
5) Amendment accepted
6) Senator Jhe tried to change an announcement about the SAT's that was too long, received an angry letter from a teacher
7) Perhaps install a textbox which allows only 30 words
8) Amend: Strike "of" in paragraph 4 of rationale
9) People tend to be lazy, if they want to place an announcement, they don't want a lot of steps to go through
10) The textbox idea seems very plausible, only way to submit is through email
11) Back of page can contain announcements not being read (too long)
12) Shouldn't amend this bill to specify a text box, this bill is to empower homeroom teachers, also to cut down on messages
13) So does homeroom teacher count first thirty words then stop? Let's give them a script
14) Student moderators could divide into what is thirty words
15) Smooth the way, send messages to people whose announcements are too long
16) At the end of thirty words, more announcements on the other side of the sheet
17) There is definitely a technological way to do this well that will be easy for all parties involved
