for next year and the attendance policy in Senate.
VI. Committee Selection:
1) Policy Committee: Reviews upcoming legislation and bills. Sparks new ideas and what type of policies would be good to work on. Meets Thursdays after school at 2:40.
2) Oversight Committee: Ensures that Senate’s bills are enforced. Main issue the last few years was recycling. Meets before Senate every Wednesday at 7:15 in room 615.
3) Communications Committee: Communicates with the rest of the student body; how the students feel about school, Senate actions.
4) Climate Committee: Focuses on the climate of the school. Recent legislation includes library passes bill, free poster area, events that classes do; meets Thursday mornings at 7:00 in 807.
5) Social Action Committee: Focuses on community service. Main priority is running the community service fair.
6) Elections: An intense committee that meets twice a year – in the fall for freshman elections and in the spring for freshman/sophomore/junior elections. Senators have to be available after school and make a commitment to the committee because there is a lot of work. Senators must also be on another committee.
VII. Goals for 2009-2010 Senate
1) The collection, cleaning, and redistribution of recycling bins needs to be clarified. Who’s doing it? LABBB? Janitors?
2) The newly created Facilities Committee wants to focus on recycling also and the need for improvement in the school’s facilities.
3) Senate needs to recruit more faculty members because the number is embarrassingly low and unconstitutional.
4) Oversight needs to clarify the policy on cancelled classes for juniors and seniors as the current policy is very inconsistent.
5) Sports counting as gym credits; this was discussed a few years ago and deserves another look.
6) A lot of things that are popular with students shouldn’t be put into place. We don’t want to get any teachers fired.
7) If anyone needs a nametag, please tell Senator Girondel.
